WEB Book Share Projects : due the week of 1/30. Students will be assigned a day to bring their project and present to the class.
ELA: Beginning the end of this month, students will read for 20 minutes each night and create at least one post-it to reflect on their reading. Students have learned a variety of ways to connect with their books and should practice predicitng, inferencing, and using the 6 different signposts to strenghten their higher level thinking. Students are expected to bring in their book and post-its each Friday and may need a reminder to help them get back into this routine. Thank you for your help with this!
In addition, students are wrapping up their work with Maniac Magee. They are learning how to analzye theme and cite textual evidence to support their thinking. They will complete a culminating activity this month to end this book study.
Additionally, students will be focused on learning the fundamentals of persuasive writing as their next writing unit. Students continue to work on proofreading and elaboration of details on a daily basis.
Lastly, students are working on an at home project this month: W.E.B. (Wonderfully Exciting Books) Book Share. All students should chose their book by Friday, 1/6, and actively read and work to complete their chosen project. A checklist was provided to help students budget their time. The project and presentation will take place the week of January 30th. Students will be assigned their day in the upcoming weeks.
Any students who are beginning new books, should check the guided reading level using Scholastic Book Wizard: click here. Remember, 5th grade levels typically range from "T-W".
Science: Students have been working hard to learn all about force and motion and are currently wrapping up this unit and will be tested on January 12th. Afterward, students will turn their attention to learning about Earth's structure.
