Class updates/Homework

 

Friday, March 13...of course today is Friday the 13th   

Students...for this time now that we are out of school and are on distance learning, please go to the Google classroom sites for your teachers---each one individually.  I am posting all around reminders in the Religion/Homeroom site and each teacher will post on their own site for you.  Check that one first on Monday as I have info from a few teachers that I am relaying on that platform for you to see and connect with each.  Please stay in communication with all of us as we are keeping track of this and hope you will not hesistate to reach out should you need help---we are all here for you!    And of course...can't end this without a big thank you to all of you who were in today and prayed with me, for me and for my son to come home from Argentina...the power of prayer...his flight is enroute!   I'm very humbled by the concern and care that each of you had for my situation today...and that is why...you are my kids too!  Please be well...and remember to WASH YOUR HANDS!

Religion:  students have been told numerous times to reference the confirmation packet for approaching dates and deadlines--the packet was handed out and explained at BTSN and the infomation is also available on the website for the Faith Formation office.  

 

7th graders:  no h/w this weekend.  Congrats...you survived your first Midterm week and you did a fantastic job on the tests.  I was so impressed by your perseverance and determination to make sure you understood the material and even more so as to the quality of work that you displayed on the midterm work space itself!   Job well done, 7th graders!!!      Of course, many have asked what the final exam is like and here it is...the midterm x 2!   It will include all material in the midterm and everything going forward.  For anyone looking for extra work, please refer to the hrw site and do sample tests/quizzes and any additional problem that the text provides to stay on top of material...it will provide a consistent pace for you and alleviate a crash crunch in the end of the year.  Again...job well done this week!   

8th graders:  we will resume normal pacing next week as we look to wrap up a few key concepts and turn our focus to your midterm which takes place Feb 5.

Note:  7th graders received their midterm study guide today...I emphasized the importance of time management in completing this...If a student completes 10 problems per night, the packet will be done in 8 days---and some are quick calculations so the possibility of completing more is extremely reasonable.  It will be due on Monday, Jan 20th!   It is excellent preparation for the midterms to come.

7th grade:  Due to our shortened class period today, I'm postponing the test to Monday.  (a sigh of relief came over each section as I made that announcement today).  Students are to work on their quizlet paper for h/w to review vocab and a live quizlet game is available on my Google classroom site 

8th grade Alg:  complete wb. p. 2.8---this was entirely a review of percents from grades 6 and 7

8th grade PreAlg:  complete matching like expressions ws for h/w; SS 11 & 12 due next Wednesday

10/18/19  Well, our first round of STAR standardized testing is over...it was so smooth today and seamless with the adoption of a computerized version.  They hung in very nicely for it and seemed to try their best.  From my standpoint, it was a dream come true...no more books to keep under lock and key, score sheets to organize, routine instructions to read in the best (Ferris Buellers Day off teachers voice!)...winning today!   

Enjoy this beautiful weather...and of course, I will be in State College tomorrow hosting a PSU/UM tailgate...and we will be the only one at our tailgate in the Maize and Blue...Go Blue!   

Homework:    7th grade:  test moved to Friday...we will begin Monday with finishing simplifying expressions and beginning the review for the exam

8th Alg:  you were given a bit of 'extra credit' to help out the test grades (don't look for those this weekend..I want to see your work that you will do over the weekend first.  

8th PreAlg:  test is Friday...students have all they need to prepare. Those struggling with a few concepts met one on one with me today...crossing my fingers but, now, the ball is in your court

Religion:  We went over the parameters of the Saint Report as they differ from that of the requirements of the RE kids.  Each student was given a handout and for those who may misplace it or leave it at school, it is on my google classsroom site.  Due dates:  Notes section due next Friday   (10/24) nd the Report is due on Monday Nov 4.

Tomorrow is our dress down day for breast cancer awareness...cost is a minimal $2 donation

7th grade...h/w finish wb p. 9 (if you only get 1-6 done that's ok...no worries---I will go over them on Monday and remember, I said this was a 2 day lesson   Please note:  I just glanced at the calendar and due to STAR testing tomorrow, I will not be able to hold classes which shifts my teaching order quite a bit.  So...the test for Algebra fundamentals is moved to next Friday.  So sorry for pushing it but, we do not have school on Wed and only a 1/2 day on Thu...Friday is much better in order for proper preparation for the students!

8th Alg:  study for your test...I managed to get another practice test online under assignments on the hrw site.  That's optional but, another tool for you to use

Religion:  groups were formed today for Mission fair...students were all instructed to the importance of a good, quality game/sign as well as the execution on the event day

8th grade PReAlg:  wkbk...or do the page that's on the back of today's notes...it's the same.  I've also posted videos which you may find useful if you need to clear up any steps in solving equations.

7th grade:  extra credit is due on Monday --it was an option (not mandatory) for students...if they chose to do it, all work must be submitted on Monday am during class.  Late papers are not accepted and you must have work in order for me to consider it for bonus points.

Monday- 9/16/19: 

Today all math classes began their Moby Max Math Assessment in class...if you did not finish in today's time...please do so by Thursday AM so that I can see where all students are at and begin to pinpoint points of interest to focus on to individualize learning for all students.

8th PreAlgebra:  Today we reviewed into to algebra vocab...H/W:  finish SS lesson 1...you must show all work...no calculators.  

 

 9/6:  First school mass was today...so nice to see so many families...kids really stepped up as 8th graders today.  Tremendous role models for the student body in church!  Woot woot!

Middle School Supply List 2019-2020

All Students

Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 are required to have the following:

• Black and/or blue erasable pens ( no clickable pens for 6th grade)

• Colored pens for correcting

• Pencils (sharpened)

• Highlighters (7th grade must have pink, blue, green, and yellow)

• A pair of earbuds or headphones dedicated for use in school

• Assignment pad

• For your homeroom:  4 boxes of tissues, 2 rolls of paper towels, a container of disinfecting wipes (no wipes for 8A)

In addition to the supplies listed above, students in the each specific grades are required to have the following: 

Sixth Grade

• 1 packs  3x5 index cards (ruled)

• Pencil case (soft)

• Eraser

• Calculator TI-34

• 2 - 3 subject notebooks with pockets

• 1 - 1 subject spiral notebook

• 5 folders

• 3 in x 3 in pack of post-it-notes for ILA

Seventh Grade

• Four durable folders (1 for ILA, religion, SS, and math)

• 3 three-subject spiral notebooks with pockets (1 for math, 1 for science and one for ILA)

• 1 one-subject notebook for religion

• A scientific calculator (TI 30 or TI 34)--this must be in school at all times

• 2 packs of 3x5 Index cards (ruled)

• 3 in x 3 in pack of post-it-notes (any color)
