See you in September!
SUMMER READING INSTRUCTIONS
You will be reading two books for class this summer.
1. Book one is a non-fiction book. You may select any non- fiction book that interests you. Be sure to choose a book that makes you think or that promotes a reaction and response. When we come back to school, you will give an oral presentation about the book. You may create a powerpoint presentation to use during your oral presentation. Be prepared to tell the class about the book you have read including, but not limited to, the following questions.
What interested you about this book?
What did you find surprising?
Why did you choose this story?
Can you relate to any of them?
To whom would you recommend this book and why?
Can you tie the events in this book to any current event? Explain
Use these questions to tell us about the book.
Remember that a presentation is NOT reading from cards or a screen. Your goal is to engage and inform the audience. You may use music or insert a news piece on the current event. We will work on this presentation the first few days of school but I want you to come with all of the ideas you want to include in it already prepared.
2. The second book you are reading is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. We will complete activities when you come back to school. This is the first of our novels for the year. You will be tested on this book. As you read, be sure to annotate important concepts. You can use a notebook, sticky notes, write in the margins, etc. You choose what works best for you.
During the first trimester we will also read Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. You will be assigned specific days to read this book. You do not have to read this during the summer. I have this book in school for you so you do not have to buy it.
Sometime in January or February, we will read, Night, by Elie Wiesel. You will receive specific days to read this book. You will have to purchase this book in February. DO NOT READ THIS OVER THE SUMMER.
If you have any questions, email me. I am happy to help!
Have a SAFE summer and remember to wash your hands!!!
Looking forward to a fun and educational year!
