The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. On December 6, 2018, St. Benedict School participated in this movement for the second time. Students were given brief instructions, coding assignments, and they were off! They created their own computer games and animations in a single hour! This global movement is based on the theory "Anyone can code". Every student in every school can learn how to code. Students are given an opportunity to learn something new, something that they otherwise would have now knowledge or understanding of, and by giving them the tools to learn it, they may actually find it something they enjoy or would like to pursue.
There are currently over 493,000 jobs in computing nationwide, and only 42,969 students graduating into the workforce. In the year 2020, there will be 1.4 million jobs available with only about 400,000 students who will be qualified to fill the positions. Now is a great opportunity to give our kids the leading edge!
