Over fifty years ago, the pastor of St. Benedict Church founded St. Benedict School to provide a high quality Catholic education to the children of the parish. Although the scope of the student population now extends beyond parishioners, the purpose of St. Benedict School remains the same--to provide students with a Catholic education that will serve as a “Foundation for Life.” This foundation is designed to equip the students with the values, skills, and breadth of knowledge that they will need to bring the gifts that God has given them to fruition.
The mission of St. Benedict School is summarized in this statement: Guided by the Gospel, inspired by the Beatitudes, and strengthened by the Eucharist, we, the Catholic school community of St. Benedict, worship God joyfully, respect life reverently, help others generously, share our gifts and talents gratefully, and engage interactively in an academic program that prepares our students for life-long learning.
As reflected in our formal title, "St. Benedict Catholic Church and School," the Church and the School stand adjacent to each other connected by a large foyer area. The priests, deacons, and parish staff serve as an anchor for the school and contribute in untold ways to its success. Parishioners of St. Benedict are rightly proud of the Catholic school that they support.
"Faith-filled and committed" are terms that apply to the entire faculty and staff of St. Benedict School. As these qualities set the tone for our school environment, they cannot be underestimated. Teachers and class aides consistently go above and beyond for their students--whether using a portion of their lunch time to help a student with a difficult concept, or lending a listening ear for a student in distress, or guiding a student at a crossroads toward a positive path. The office staff are unfailingly pleasant, patient, and helpful. Support staff from the cafeteria workers to the custodians contribute to the warm, family atmosphere of the school.
St. Benedict School parents are to be commended for their unwavering support of our school community. Their generosity of spirit in both the temporal and spiritual realms remains consistently beyond compare. Their spirit of volunteerism provides our students with an excellent example and allows us to offer programs that would otherwise not be possible.
Finally, the students of St. Benedict School remain at the heart of this community. Energy, enthusiasm, thirst for learning, generosity, and positive attitude are qualities that stretch back through a long line of graduates and continue to exist in the "Rebels" that enter the school doors today. We are proud of their accomplishments and even more proud of their character.
St. Benedict is the “Home of the Rebels” and we use “Rebels” as an acronym to encapsulate our expectations for each student:
R = respectful and responsible;
E = excellent effort in academics;
B = believer;
E = energetic;
L = loving;
S = supportive of teachers and schoolmates.
With these expectations held high, we believe our students can strive to reach and then surpass their goals, thus laying the foundation for future success.
