Jan. 16
We have completed Flowers for Algernon. Students wrote a creative ending for the story. We will be writing a persuasive essay next week. Vocabulary unit 11 begins next week.

Happy New  Year. 

We are working on a new story in class, Flowers for Algernon. Students are reading in class and analyzing the concepts as well as discussing their feelings for Charlie. Gordon. 
VOc. HW today is page 112, 113. 
Test on Thursday in Vocabulary. Ch. 7 - 9.

Dec. 18. 
We have finished our letter-writing project. This very special opportunity to share in the joy of Christmas with the rest of our school is truly more of a gift to our 8th grade than it is to the younger children. It reminds them of the magic of the season and just how blessed they are. 
We read The Gift of the Magi and are watching two movie depictions. 
Quiz on Ch. 9 vocabulary tomorrow.

We will be culminating our study of Of Mice and Men with tomorrow's test. Students are well prepared as we watched the movie after competing the book, shared many discussions, took key notes on the elements of literature within the book, and completed a study guide yesterday and today. 

Dec. 2, 2024
We are halfway through the classic, Of Mice and Men. Students are working on guided reading in class. 
Students are working on Ch. 8 in vocabulary. 
IXL continues with an emphasis on parts of speech. 

We will be working on a creative writing project next week.

We are working on the culminating activities for The Outsiders. Students are writing a three-paragraph essay supporting the theme of the novel. . The rough copy is due tomorrow. Quiz on vocabulary ch. 4 is next Tuesday, 

Oct. 8. 
Test tomorrow on Voc. 1 - 3. Students are to read Chapter 3 in The Outsiders. 

October 7, 2024
We have begun our study of The Outsiders. Students are reading to page 31 for tonight. The Vocabulary Test is on Wednesday for Chapters 1-3. 

Sept. 25, 2024
We are working on the final review for TKM. Students are completing the paragraph answers for the test on Tuesday.  Answers for questions 1 and 2 are due tomorrow for 8 Blue. Answers to 1 - 4 for 8 White are due tomorrow. We will review those tomorrow so that students are able to study the paragraphs. Test on TKM is Tuesday, Oct. 1. 

Sept. 13, 2024

The second week of school went very well. We began to discuss the characterization for TKM. Students are to complete the character work in their notebook by Tuesday. 
We are completing the projects on the Summer Reading Book. Students will present starting Monday.
Voc. Ch. 2 will begin on Monday. 
We are working on subject/verb agreement in grammar.

WELCOME BACK !!

We have had a fabulous week in 8th Grade ELA.

We are starting our exploration of To Kill a Mockingbird by discussing the setting and its impact on the novel. We began our vocabulary by defining the words for unit 1 and completing the Words in Context and the Completing the Sentence activities. 
Students are working on a summary of the Screwtape Letters.
Please be sure your child has his or her summer reading book in school by Monday. We will begin the projects based on those books. 

Students will also need a book for Sustained Silent Reading in class every day starting Monday.

SUMMER READING INSTRUCTIONS

You will be reading two books this summer. The first is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. As you read this book, you will write a Reader's Response Journal. You may handwrite it or create a doc. It has to be printed and submitted in Sept. For each chapter you will write a brief summary and response. 

Include:

• One or two sentences that explain what happened in the chapter
• One comment indicating your thoughts on the chapter.
• A question you have about what is happening or what is to come in the next chapter. 

Ex. 

Chapter One   June 25, 2024

I thought this chapter was…… 

Each entry should be about 4-6 sentences. 

The second book is a book of your own choosing. Please pick a book you will enjoy reading. The first week of school, you will create a slide presentation on the book. Further instructions will be given at that time.

 The Outsiders needs to be purchased, but you do not have to read it. We will read it during the school year. 
 

Middle School Supply List- Grades 6, 7 & 8

Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 are required to have the following:

• Black and/or blue erasable pens 
• Colored pen (other than blue and black) 
• Scissors
• Crayons or Colored pencils (6th grade must have both)
• Black Sharpie
• Glue stick
• Markers
• Pencils (sharpened)

• 12-inch ruler (centimeter and inch markings)
• 1 Highlighter
• A pair of earbuds or headphones dedicated for use in school 
• Assignment book
• Scientific calculator (TI 30 or TI 34)- this must be in school at    all times
• For your homeroom:  3 boxes of tissues, 2 rolls of paper towels, 1 container of disinfecting wipes 
• Jumbo Book Sock for Social Studies Book
