A licensed Registered Nurse operates the school's Health Office. In addition to handling all school medical emergencies and health concerns, the Nurse administers medications and conducts various health screenings throughout the school year, such as height, weight, vision, hearing, and scoliosis at specific grade levels. The Nurse works closely with parents, students, and faculty to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all.
*Please keep your emergency contact information up to date with the Main Office.
NURSE'S OFFICE REMINDERS:
We are a NUT-FREE school, this includes peanuts and ALL tree nuts.
All Medical notes or concerns should go through the Nurse.
Any orthopedic assistive device requires a medical order signed by a doctor.
For example: crutches, a cast, a boot, etc.
Students who need to be excused from gym or sports must provide a doctor's note. Clearance for resuming normal activities must also be submitted.
Immunization records are required to be updated with the Nurse on a rolling basis.
Physical exams are to be submitted to the Nurse annually.
Sports clearances are submitted to the Nurse annually.
If your child has a toileting accident and is unable to clean up/change by themselves, a parent/guardian will be called to come to school within 45 minutes.
A sick child must be picked up by a parent/guardian from school within 45 minutes.
In the interest of your child's health, as well as the health of other students, it is required that you keep your child home if he/she has the following symptoms:
Fever of, or over, 100 degrees F
Vomiting and/or diarrhea during the night or morning
Heavy or loosely frothing coughing, and/or extensive nasal discharge
Severe headache, diarrhea, and/or stomach cramps
Unexplained rash
Redness and/or drainage from the eyes
Sick Day Policy: Students may return to school when their temperature is normal for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, have not vomited or had diarrhea for 24 hours, and when they feel well enough to participate in school for a FULL day.
MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION POLICIES:
No medication, under any circumstances, can be administered by the Nurse without a Medication Order Form completed by a Doctor.
Students are not allowed to carry medications with them while in school. Medication must be stored in the Nurse's office, and the Nurse must administer the medication at the proper time.
Medication will NOT be accepted or held at school without medical orders written and signed by a legal prescriber (Physician, PA, Nurse Practitioner, or Dentist) and a parent/guardian.
The medication prescribed should be brought to the Nurse by the parent/guardian in the original box as received from the pharmacy, with the pharmacy label attached.
These requirements also apply to any over-the-counter medication, such as Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, Tums, cough drops, etc.
Please be sure to send in all the prescribed medication and supplies ordered by the Doctor.
For example: Please send in Aero Chambers/Spacers/Tubing and Mask or Pipe for nebulizer medication, and Benadryl as prescribed by the Doctor for children with Benadryl and Epi-Pen orders. The Health Office does not provide these.
If Benadryl is given for any reason, you will need to pick up your child; he/she cannot stay in school.
New medication orders must be completed by a Doctor and submitted to the Nurse every September.
You may come to the Nurse's office at any time to administer medications to your own child without an order.
Required Forms for Sports Registration & Clearance
To participate in sports, each student must submit the following TWO important forms to the School Nurse:
the Physician/Physical Exam and
the Preparticipation Physical Evaluation [PPE] Medical Eligibility Form
*BOTH forms are REQUIRED for students who want to try out, practice, and/or participate in any sport. Clearances are only valid for ONE YEAR. _________________________________________________________________________________
