A licensed Registered Nurse operates the school Health Office. As well as handling all school medical emergencies and health concerns, the Nurse administers medications, and conducts various health screenings throughout the school year, such as height, weight, vision, hearing, and scoliosis at specific grade levels. The Nurse works closely with parents, faculty, and students to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all. Please keep your emergency contact information up to date with the Main Office.
In the interest of your child(ren)'s health, as well as the health of other students, it is required that you keep your child home if he/she has the following symptoms:
Fever over 100 degrees F
Vomiting and/or diarrhea during the night or morning
Heavy or loosely frothing coughing, and/or extensive nasal discharge
Severe headache, diarrhea, and/or stomach cramps
Unexplained rash
Redness and/or drainage from the eyes
Students may return to school when their temperature is normal for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and when the child feels well enough to be in school for a full day. MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION POLICIES:
No medication, under any circumstances can be administered by the Nurse without a medication order form completed by your Doctor.
Students are not allowed to carry medications with them while in school. Medication must be stored in the Nurse's office and the Nurse must administer the medication at the proper time.
Medication will NOT be accepted or held at school without medical orders written and signed by a legal prescriber (Physician, Dentist, or Nurse Practitioner) and a parent/guardian.
The medication prescribed should be sent in to the Nurse by the parent/guardian in the original box as you receive it from the pharmacy, with the pharmacy label attached.
These requirements also apply to any over-the-counter medication, such as Tylenol, Advil, Tums, cough drops, etc.
Please be sure to send in all the prescribed medication and supplies ordered by the Doctor.
For example: Please send in Aero Chambers/Spacers/Tubing and Mask or Pipe for nebulizer medication and Benadryl as prescribed by the Doctor for children with Benadryl and Epi-Pen orders. The Health Office does not provide these.
If Benadryl is given for any reason, you will need to pick up your child, he/she cannot stay in school.
New orders must be completed by your Doctor and submitted to the Nurse every September.
You may come to the Nurse's office at any time to administer medications to your own child without an order.
