1. Please try to attend Sunday mass as a family and reflect on the readings and Gospel using the children's bulletin in your child's Homework folder

5. Practice opening binder rings with your child and help reinforce that they are not forced open.  Stretched out binder rings will not hold in papers properly and may already need replacement.

Homework is an important part of our work at school. It is designed to be a reinforcement and/or review of topics we cover in class each day. It also serves as an opportunity for students to practice managing their time and organizing their materials. 

Students are required to do 20-30 minutes of homework each night.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Each student will use a homework planner that lets them know what their nightly assignments are. Please encourage your child to refer to this planner nightly (except Fridays and over holiday breaks).  It is helpful for some students to check-off each assignment and as they complete it.  The act of bringing homework back to school the next day is part of each and every assignment.

MISSED ASSIGNMENTS

If a student misses a homework assignment, he or she will be asked to spend some of their independent work time working on the assignment if time permits or it will be returned home.  If the student receives more than three missed homework assignments he or she will write a note home explaining to you what seems to be the problem.  Then together, we'll develop a plan of action in order to help the student complete his or her homework on time and to the best of their ability.

PARENTAL SUPPORT

Homework assignments are designed to reinforce concepts discussed during the school day.  They also provide opportunities for students to take responsibility of their work and develop independent study skills.  All assignments are explained during the school day and should require little clarification at home . However, students will most likely need support establishing a homework routine and quiet place to work.  Homework assignments need not be free from all errors.  Please encourage your child to do his or her personal best and communicate with me if you feel your child has missed key concepts or is in need of additional support.
 

SOME WAYS YOU CAN HELP WITH HOMEWORK

-Develop a routine

-Make sure your child has a quiet place to work.

-Provide an area at your child's workspace for materials.

-Review their homework schedule with them and encourage them to check off each item as they go.

-Have your child explain the directions to you before he or she starts.

-Encourage your child

-Suggest they take a break and come back to an assignment later if they become overly frustrated of anxious

-Remind your child of the Quality Work discussions we've had in class
